  • Why did you choose Lourmarin?
A few reasons for this: 1. As a joke we like to say it's neutral ground and in between Ireland and SA. 2. Rochelle's parents have a house in the village and she has been travelling here every year for almost her whole life. Lourmarin is like a second home to the Carr family. Nicole and Brendan (Rochelle's sister and brother in law) also got married in Lourmarin, so we are continuing the tradition. 3. It's a less rainy option than Ireland and The Netherlands, and we love the sun! 4. Regardless of where we do it many people would have to travel, so we choose a beautiful location that everyone can get to and enjoy.
  • What is the weather like in Lourmarin in June?
Late June is the most beautiful time of year to visit Lourmarin (it's why we chose it). The lavender is in full bloom and temperatures are warm but usually not too hot. The average temperature for late June is 27 degrees, however if we are unlucky there could be a shower of rain and evenings could get cool. We have also previously experienced some hotter weather reaching 35 degrees. Check the weather in advance but we hope for beautiful blue skies and warm weather as we are planning an outdoor wedding.
  • What should I wear?
Above all else we want you to be comfortable, we expect good weather with temperatures up to 30 degrees so bear that in mind. Friday's Welcome event, think smart casual. A wine tasting event at a casual location. We will be on the grass and inside a wine cave so keep that in mind for foot wear. It will be evening time, depending on the weather you might want something light like a cardigan if it cools down in the evening. Saturday Wedding day. The dress code is cocktail attire. This basically means it's an occasion to dress up but full gown is unnecessary. For men, cocktail attire usually means a suit and tie, but as it's likely hot we don't expect men to be in blazers all day, but we do want you to look your best at the ceremony. For women, think cocktail dress / maxi dress / etc. As for footwear, our ceremony will require a short walk up hill across grass, make sure you will be comfortable. Feel free to bring your fancy shoes and slip them on after the ceremony. p.s even Rochelle won't wear stilettos for this. Sunday brunch & pool day This is a more casual and come as you are event. There will be a buffet brunch and some drinks. Everyone will have access to the pool so feel free to bring your bikini/shorts and 'plakkies' (South African slang for flipflops) along. Bring your own towel if you would like to swim.
  • How far is the 'short walk up to the olive grove' for the ceremony?
It is located on the grounds of Château Les Gardis, which is a short walk up a gradual hill. The terrain is dirt path and grass. We will be serving refreshments as we expect warm weather in June. Do you have limited mobility? Let us know, we are allowed to drive one car up to the ceremony location and of course want to make sure you are comfortable.
  • Can I bring my kids?
We have family and friends traveling from all over the world. Some are even turning this trip into a family holiday. While we are not 'excluding' children, we would like to inform parents of some key points to know before making the decision to bring them or not. It's not a very child friendly venue and wedding. There is a pool on site with easy access and no lifeguard to watch the children. The venue is also a big olive grove with many hazards not suitable for kids. Parents will need to take full responsibility for their own kids. We will not be serving a kiddies menu and parents can expect party noise until very late. If your child joins for the wedding, that's wonderful, please let us know in the RSVP. We ask you to help us get through the "I do's" with respect for the quite and official nature of the ceremony. We already know of a couple of babies that will likely join the wedding day, so take what you need and we will try to have a space where baby changing & feeding is possible. The above also applies to the welcome event and day after, however should you have any questions regarding kids, please reach out to us.
  • Where should I stay?
We recommend you stay in or around the village of Lourmarin so you can attend all the wedding events. We have some suggestions in our 'where to stay' page on our website, but reach out if you are having any issues.
  • What about gifts?
As Rochelle's wise Nanny (grandmother) says "I want your presence not your presents!" And this is totally true for us. Many of you will travel long distances to share our wedding weekend with us, this is our only wish so please do not feel obliged to get us anything else. However if you really really insist, we are planning a honeymoon to a tropical destination, yet tbd, but thinking sand, sun, cocktails and scuba diving. Any contributions towards this would be appreciated.
  • What if I have dietary requirements?
Let us know in your RSVP we will strive to make sure there's an option for everyone.
  • When do I need to RSVP by?
As it's a destination wedding, we ask for your confirmation as soon as you know and our RSVP deadline is earlier than usual. We kindly ask for RSVPs by the end of January 2025, giving us enough time to plan from afar and make our wedding dream come true. We have friends and family flying in from all over the world and we want to give everyone time to get organised too. Please RSVP as soon as you know via our website by 31/01/2025.
  • Can I bring a plus one?
We want to be surrounded by people we know and love on this special day. We have taken care to invite couples and due the limited capacity of our venue, plus-ones are by invite only.
